AMICUS WINES
The other day, a large Antipodean gentleman wandered into the shop
clutching a couple of bottles of wine. One look at his impressive
girth and slightly alarmingly coloured nose told me here was a man
who knew something of the finer things in life. By the time he walked
out, we had agreed to list his wines. Walter Clappis (for it was
he) has been making wine for 28 years and is considered one of Australia's
most outstanding Winemakers, being the only Winemaker to have ever
won the Dan Murphy Trophy three times. During the 20 years Walter
owned Ingoldby Winery, he amassed a total of 37 trophies and 124
gold medals, including the highly prestigious Bushing King Award
for the most outstanding red wine. Walter Clappis has always made
wine employing the traditional methods. His own vineyards follow
Biodynamic principles, eliminating the use of pesticides and herbicides.
All of his wine reflect a purity which is consistent with the Winemaker
and his philosophies.
Amicus is a joint venture between Walter and two Australian politicians
(but don’t let that put you off). Fruit is sourced from the
vineyards of Sam Newell in Langhorne creek. The fruit that Walter
does not take goes into the top end of Penfold’s range including
Grange, so we’re talking serious kit. Walter’s style
comprises of incredible purity of fruit, the judicious use of new
oak to provide backbone and a clean, linear minerality that makes
these wines both refreshing and very food friendly.

NEW ITALIAN LINES
Over the past month, we have completely revamped our Italian list.
Some of you may have tasted some of the wines, either at Cannizaro
House or in store. Anyway, below is a full list of all the additions.
I can promise you that they are all, in their own way, fantastic.
(But , given that I chose them, I would say that, wouldn’t
I?)
